Background
One of the world’s largest commercial HVAC manufacturers, renowned for its premium, innovative products, includes a ceiling-mounted cassette air conditioner with heat pump capability in its portfolio. The commercial ceiling unit segment is highly competitive and evolving due to energy regulations, refrigerant transitions, power supply requirements, and new technologies such as heat recovery capabilities. These regulatory changes and regional requirements necessitate a broad range of models with multiple power supply requirements, presenting challenges in supply chain management and production efficiency. The global leader sought solutions from Boyard.
Challenges
To enhance comfort and appearance, OEM demand for customized compressors is increasing, particularly for ceiling-mounted cassette systems. The manufacturer faced challenges such as diverse models, complex power supply systems, and the need for rapid mass customization. Additionally, they required compressors suitable for R32 refrigerant, known for its high pressure, in ceiling cassette with space constraints, necessitating highly efficient, compact compressors with a 15-year service life.
Solution
During a two-month development process, the manufacturer proposed requirements with various cooling capacities and power supplies. Specific criteria included compressor reliability, compatibility with refrigeration oil and refrigerant, and operational characteristics. Boyard conducted a detailed assessment of compressor reliability, following TS16949 development procedures, and ultimately developed nine compressors meeting the manufacturer’s specifications for the North American market.
